Favourite Songs For a Fall Day

Is it really September 12th? Wow, can't believe summer is over and the mornings are already cold, can see my breath and Eric needs layers and complains about the house being freezing.  I try and keep the furnace off from May to October but September is already chilly when we wake up.

Well trying to extend that summer feeling, here are some of my favourite songs of all time, timeless I suppose, the kind of songs that bring you back to a special moment or two, enjoy!

Wish you were here

Fly at Night

Oh what a Night

Baby I love your way

Layla - Go Eric........Clapton that is.

My Eric, above, still enjoys his wagon, having found more creative ways to enjoy it!

On a recent trip to Spain I bought these tiles for our last name

Lilies in the front garden

Though we have a broken fence, it gives it a kind of warn, eclectic feel, n'est pas?

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

Eleanor Roosevelt

Patio flowers
A birthday Orchid

Black Petunia, love it!

Geraniums remind of my Mums patio in Spain when I was a child

Sigh, I wish it was early June and not September......

So cheerful these orange Marigolds

Love this combo of colour

Unfortunately, the squirrels or magpies knocked this bunch over, rotten buggers....

Oh well, at least I got pictures before they were ruined

A summer BBQ, perhaps Canada Day?

Andrea, Jaxi and I.

Is that the moon above Randy, or a visiting spirit?

Perhaps smoke, but could also be visiting spirits?

Happy friends

The lovely Jaxi

Thanx for stopping by!

A listen down memory lane with Roger Hodgson

The Voice of Supertramp  - Listening to them in the car brought back memories of being a teenager in Spain in the 1970's/80's  - my sister and I both listened to a lot of Supertramp! These are just some links of him solo in different concerts, some with an orchestra, great especially Give A Little Bit.

Remembering Forever Young Alphaville 1984

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2dLfUw8rcA

Back in 1984 the space age type clothes were the thing, see German pop group Alphaville from back then with above link. Though this song was popular 26 years ago, it is still a favourite and has been remixed several times including a recent Rap version that my kids like. I always prefer the orginal songs and the best part is looking at the then and now videos on You Tube of what they look like today, above was 1984 and today is here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eux3dT3tLf4

This song still inspires me and sure brings back memories, seems like it does for the people in the audience too!

The weather in Calgary has been so abysmal since Tuesday, I won't go on about it, a Chinook is expected now and by Saturday we are supposed to get to 20+C - how crazy is that. I suppose, after 16 years here I should be used to it by now, but seriously there is rock hard, crunchy ice all over the side roads now that will melt and be quite messy OMG. I need to have a weekend retreat somewhere warm.

I have just added Carly Simon's Blog http://simonspeaks.typepad.com/ to my Blog list really enjoy the 60's ladies being that I was born during the 60's .................almost finished the book.

Good Read

I have been indulging in a book about three singer songwriter legends Called "Girls Like Us" by Sheila Weller. It is about the lives of Joni Mitchel, Carly Simon and Carol King; which is the main reason for not posting of late. It has spurred me to watch 60's and 70's videos of some of their songs as well as interviews about their lives, the change they helped to orchestrate to women's rights, the changes to our role in society and the music that touched all of us and still does today as many old and new artists record/ed new versions of their songs. James Taylor worked with all three on albums, and had a relationship with Joni prior to his marriage to Carly Simon. Though it ended in divorce because of his heroin addiction, he dropped this habit after their divorce. Their two kids Ben and Sally are also singer songwriters today performing with both parents.

This James Taylor song was originally recorded under the Beatles Apple label and is said to have inspired George Harrison's song Something in the way she moves, written about his first wife Pattie Boyd. Her autobiography is another great read about the early life with the Beatles and then life with Eric Clapton, Wonderful Tonight.
